Una lunga striscia di sabbia dorata che separa la laguna dal Mar Adriatico, così doveva apparire ai naviganti del XIX secolo l'isolotto di Venezia Lido.

Uno sfruttamento vero e proprio dell'isola si ebbe infatti solo a partire dal '900 con la costruzione dei primi grandi alberghi che richiamarono importanti personalità da tutto il mondo, i quali favorirono a loro volta feste private e un'intensa vita notturna concentrata principalmente presso il Casinò.

L'atmosfera che si respira al Lido di Venezia è tutt'oggi immutata, si pensi ad esempio alle passerelle hollywoodiane della Mostra del Cinema, ma ai ghiotti avvenimenti mondani si può benissimo accostare una visita agli splendidi edifici Liberty del centro abitato o degli itinerari in bicicletta sul lungolaguna o i Murazzi alla volta del borgo dogale di Malamocco o verso le dune e le pinete di Alberoni
