Risalente al periodo alto-medioevale, Surano pare che sia sorta sulle rovine di Suranello, casale presso Vaste, distrutto dai Goti nel VI sec.d.C. Nel centro storico si può ammirare la Chiesa Parrocchiale del XVIII sec. e la Chiesa di S.Rocco, sorta su una cripta basiliana.
