Il paese, fondato nel tardo medioevo da Raimondello Orsini del Balzo, si sviluppò nel XIX sec. Di particolare interesse artistico: la chiesa parrocchiale del '600, in stile barocco, arricchita da numerose decorazioni settecentesche; il Convento dei Frati Minori francescani, del Cinquecento.
