Loiano è un comune situato nelle valli della provincia di Bologna e trovandosi ad una discreta altitudine sul livello del mare è stato scelto come sede del secondo osservatorio astronomico più grande d'Italia, visitabile solo su prenotazione al calare delle tenebre.

Nel diurno, il territorio loianese ci apparirà immerso in una natura rigogliosa invitante alle escursioni, magari con meta le folte pinete dell'appenino tosco-emiliano che contornano il paese.

É facile notare quanto la planimetria comunale di Loiano sia piuttosto irregolare, perchè ripartita in diverse borgate (come Scanello, Quinzano, La Guarda) ognuna fornita di edifici peculiari, sacri in particolare.
